Welcome to the Chronicles of a Kiwi Earth Mother, where you’ll find simple, healthful ideas… so busy parents like you can raise happy, healthy families, without it costing the earth.

I’m sure you’ve heard the saying, “it takes a village to raise a family” and yet, nowadays, and for a variety of reasons, that extended family support and advice is often in short supply.  Bringing up children is darn hard work, and anyone who tells you otherwise (like in those awful dysfunctional coffee groups!) is lying.  There are a stack of websites out there sharing parenting information, and at times, it can all seem overwhelming.  What’s more, there’s no such thing as a perfect parent and, if there were, how well would their children be equipped to venture out into an imperfect world?  I fervently believe that no parent should have to “go it alone”.  That’s where I come in: I’m here to help and walk alongside Mums and Dads, whether they be just starting out on the parenting trail, or seeking natural alternatives in a chemically soaked environment.  I’m not claiming to be an expert or a guru – I’m a parent just like you, learning and applying as I go.

It was a friend who suggested that I start this blog, following positive feedback from people I had helped individually.  One woman, recently diagnosed with Celiac Disease, had this to say about the recipes I sent her:

Thank you so much for sending me these they look great!

And a mother, who was feeling overwhelmed after discovering that her young son was allergic to gluten, commented:

Wow. What a wonderful and useful message. I really appreciate it.

When you visit my site, I want you to feel not only a sense of empowerment and relief, but hopefully also excitement, about the prospect of raising a healthy, happy family in a way that remains respectful of our precious planet.  You are not alone., but are part of a community of parents with precisely the same goals.  (Please feel free to let me know if I’ve achieved my goal or can improve my blog in some way!)

I am a mother of three:  Starfire, my oldest daughter, is six; my middle child, Raven, is nearly four, and I have a seven month old baby boy, Robin (yep, my girls are Teen Titans fans and chose their own pseudonyms!)

A severe reaction to Starfire’s very first immunisation injections caused me to start challenging assumptions I’d previously made.  As an autoimmune disease sufferer, I decided to adopt a gluten-free diet to reduce the impact of leaky gut syndrome, and made healthy living a priority.  When Raven was diagnosed with a list of food intolerances as long as your arm, I had to step things up another gear.  But that doesn’t mean our diet is boring.  Indeed, my husband often comments how delicious and varied my girls’ lunchboxes look, especially compared to the food he took to school as a child!

So, in a nutshell, eating healthily, keeping active, and minimising my family’s exposure to nasty chemicals, in an environmentally caring way, is an absolute priority for me.  If I can help others to do the same, then even better!

So, take a look around. I hope you like what you see and visit me often. Have a question for me? Drop me an e-mail at, fill out the contact form, or click on one of the social media links on this page.
